Katia Mercieca

Katia is an associate of the firm since June 2009. Katia heads the firm’s Litigation Unit where she advises mainly on Civil, Commercial and Criminal Law and Employment and Industrial Relations. Katia is also involved in alternative dispute resolution including domestic and international arbitration as well as mediation.


Katia is examiner of Civil Law with the University of Malta and also has acted as examiner of law students submitting their LL.D thesis in the final year of the law course at the University of Malta. She is a director of several companies, including Alliance Trust Company Limited (a licenced fiduciary and trustee).

Damien Degiorgio

Damien joined the firm in January 2012 to head the firm's litigation unit in Valletta. Damien graduated in 1999 and represented various clients in criminal and civil fora. In 2001 he joined Enemalta Corporation, Malta's largest state owned corporation, where he was entrusted with the estalishment of the corporation's legal office, which he headed for 10 years, advising on various fields, particulalrly on public procurement, energy, EU law, employment law, property law and debt collection. Damien also served as a company secretary and as a director for a number of public and private entities.

Carla Camilleri

Carla joined Fenech Farrugia Fiott Legal as an associate in the beginning of 2009. Carla previously worked at Baker & McKenzie LLP, London, in the Projects & Construction Department, in a Professional Support Lawyer/Paralegal role.


In 2008 she spent 6 months as a Legal Assistant in the EC, Competition & Trade Department also at Baker & McKenzie. Prior to that, Carla spent 2 years working in the Ministry for Finance, in Malta, as a Legal Officer within the State Aid Monitoring Board. Throughout this time, she assisted in the assessment of State aid cases, complaints and preliminary proceedings brought against the Government in front of the State Aid Monitoring Board or filed with the European Commission.  Carla works mainly on mergers and acquisitions and she also handles a broad range of corporate and commercial transactions. In addition, she advises on Maltese and EC competition law, including merger control, state aid and public procurement work. Carla is also involved in the firm’s aviation unit advising on dry and wet leases, engine sale and lease-back transactions and aircraft registration.

Geraldine Baldacchino

Geraldine joined the firm in July 2009 as a trainee law student and became an Associate with the firm in September 2010. Geraldine works within the firm’s Ship and Aircraft Registration Unit, where she provides advice to clients on the registration of vessels and yachts used for pleasure and commercial purposes, on the formation of shipping organisations and also Ship Financing.


She also handles all other queries relating to Maritime and Aviation Law. Geraldine works also within the firm’s Litigation Unit where she advices on Civil and Commercial Law and certain aspects of Criminal Law.

Maria Borg Scicluna

Maria joined the Fenech Farrugia Fiott Legal as an associate in September 2011. She is assigned to the tax unit where she is mainly involved in assignments dealing with local and cross-border tax and VAT issues as well as tax litigation. Maria holds a Master of Laws in Tax Law (Queen Mary, University of London) and has submitted a dissertation about the Limitation on Benefits Clause in the new US-Malta Double Taxation. Maria has gained exposure to tax during summer internships within a Big4 firm.

Celia Mifsud

Celia Mifsud joined the firm in May 2011 as a result of the merger with Ganado Sammut Advocates where she practised as an associate since 2005. Her main areas of practice are commercial and corporate law, intellectual property law and EU law. Celia also advises on trusts and related structures, online gaming operations, business incentives as well as employment and residency issues.
