Damien is a member of the Council of the Malta Institute of Taxation and a member of the Maltese Chamber of Advocates since 2001. Damien is a delegate of the Professional Affairs Committee of the Confederation Fiscale Europeene (CFE) where he regularly attends and contributes to workshops on the regulation of the tax profession and EU legislation affecting the tax profession.
He started practice at a leading local law firm where he was gained experience in tax and corporate matters and formed part of a team that assisted the Maltese Government in the due diligence process in the privatization of state lotteries. He later joined PricewaterhouseCoopers and became a senior associate in 2002 where he was mainly involved in local and international tax planning, corporate law and commercial contract drafting.
In May 2004, together with his father Antoine, he co-founded Fiott Advocates, a boutique law firm specializing in tax consultancy. He was mainly involved in cross border tax planning and group reorganizations, corporate and commercial law and estate planning. In June 2009, Fiott Advocates merged with Fenech Farrugia Legal to form Fenech Farrugia Fiott Legal. Damien’s main practice areas remain direct and indirect taxation, cross-border tax and VAT planning for reorganizations and multinational structures with particular focus on the yachting industry, e-commerce, internet gaming and the film and audiovisual sector. Other areas include expatriates’ tax and estate planning, mergers and acquisitions and corporate law.
Damien contributes a number of tax related articles to various journals and has delivered a number of presentations at tax seminars.
Damien's hobbies inlcude arts and travelling. He is an avid wine lover and has been elected Vigneron d'Honneur by the Jurade de Saint-Emilion in 2009.
