Christian Farrugia, co-managing partner of Fenech Farrugia Fiott Legal, has been appointed non-executive chairman of Bawag Malta Bank Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Austrian Bawag PSK banking group, with effect from December 1.

Bawag Malta Bank, which launched its operations in Malta in September 2003, provides financial solutions to customers in Malta, in the Mediterranean region, the Middle East and North Africa.

The bank’s main focus is commercial banking, offering loan and deposit services in any currency, project finance for private and public sectors, and international syndications, transactions and structured finance.

Dr Farrugia specialises in corporate and maritime law, mergers and acquisitions, banking and financial services. He is a director of Alliance Trust Co. Limited, a company licensed by the Malta Financial Services Authority to act as a fiduciary and trustee. He also sits on the board of directors of several other companies.

Bawag Malta Bank operates from The Strand in Sliema.
