Antoine Fiott


Dr Antoine Fiott graduated in laws at the University of Malta in 1981. He joined the Maltese Civil Service and worked as deputy registrar at the Law Courts and as senior tax official at the Inland Revenue Department.

On graduating, he was appointed Counsel for the Republic at the Attorney General’s Office, where he was legal adviser until 1986. After a short spell in private practice he joined Coopers and Lybrand (later Price water house Coopers), as a tax consultant and was admitted to partnership in 1995. In 2004, he set up his own legal practice together with his son Damien. In 2009, the firm merged with Fenech Farrugia Legal in what today is Fenech Farrugia Fiott Legal.

Antoine Fiott’s professional experience includes tax and legal consultancy services and he is regularly engaged as counsel for private clients in tax cases before the tax tribunals and in the Court of Appeal. He is also frequently engaged by the Maltese Government on legislative drafting assignments and as a consultant on various tax related projects.

For many years, Antoine Fiott was a lecturer and examiner in taxation in the law and accountancy courses at the University of Malta and at the Institute of Accountants. He is still a lecturer and examiner in the course leading to Magister Juris in European and Comparative Law and an examiner in the M. A. in Financial Services course at the University of Malta. He is frequently appointed by the Faculty of Laws on the boards of examiners for doctoral and masters dissertations.

Antoine Fiott is currently the Deputy Chairman of the Malta Stock Exchange. He has been a member of the Chamber of Advocates since 1981 and he is a founder member and ex-president of the Malta Institute of Taxation.
